1966 State Champions

1966 State Champions!

In the 1966-67 school year, Pleasantville High School's Varsity Cross Country Team became the school's first New York State Championship team. The following is from the 1966-67 yearbook:

"This year, cross country came into its own as a full-fledged varsity sport. Our team's record of 8 wins and 1 loss took them to several large invitationals, where they ran off with 4 first place victories. The varsity winners then went to the State meet, and won the Class C championship.

"Aside from the skill and determination of the members, the major factor in the team's success was Coach William Girard. He not only had the boys run 15 miles a day, 6 days a week, morning, noon and night, in all weather, but also had the whole school out cheering them on. The enthusiasm of the fans and the hard work of the team made it a great year for cross country at Pleasantville."
