Former Pleasantville Coach Tom Patterson (2009-2015) was instrumental in rejuvenating the Cross Country and Track and Field programs at Pleasantville High School.
During his competitive years, he was co-captain of his high school team that won state championships in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track while setting several school records. His indoor mile record stood for nearly 50 years. At Cornell, he ran all three seasons for four years, was elected co-captain of the team, earned All-Ivy honors six times and set several school records including the 4X800 school record that still stands today.
Tom later channeled his expertise and passion for the sport into creating a championship-caliber program in Pleasantville. His devotion to his athletes set the standard by which future coaches will be measured.
Tom has generously created and endowed a scholarship award for PHS XCTF seniors to be given each year starting in Spring 2025. When creating the award, Tom insisted that selection criteria be based on sportsmanship and being a good teammate rather than just athletic prowess.
We are extremely grateful for Coach Patterson’s ongoing support of Pleasantville XCTF and will share more details including this year’s recipient in the coming months.
