“Once a Panther, Always a Panther”

PHS Alumnus Chris Caile ‘59 stopped by the throwing circle in May 2025 to lend his expertise and expert he is—-his PHS outdoor shot put record has held for 66 years!

"On Friday, June 12, Patrick Watts won the Division 2 State Championship in the 800 with a time of 1:52.22, setting a new PHS record by over a second and a half, and was 4th overall in the Federation (all public, Catholic, and private schools in the state). His time qualified him to compete at the New Balance National Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina, next weekend. Drew Dorflinger was fifth in the 3200, earning a medal and a place on the awards podium. The next day, Patrick finished sixth in the 1600 and set a new school record (4:19). The 4x800 relay team of Eamon Coburn, Patrick Watts, Eli Waxler, and JC Yahia easily won the Division 2 State Championship with a time of 7:53 (their best time this year and just 1.5 seconds off the school record)."

"The Pleasantville High School Boys' Varsity Cross Country team won its second consecutive Westchester County Championship.

The seven fastest runners from 35 schools competed. Runners from Pleasantville were: Will Blasdell, Dylan Bronkema, Drew Dorflinger, Robert Feeney, Aidan McDermott, Declan McDermott, and JC Yahia."

"Escorted through town with sirens and flashing lights, the Pleasantville High School Cross Country Team returned home Friday evening from Bowdoin Park in Wappinger Falls having won their first Section 1 Class C Championship since 1967.

Led by junior Eli Waxler and followed closely by sophomore Aidan McDermott, the Panther squad pushed their top five across the finish line in the top 25 and all seven in the top 35. According to Waxler, it was a "total team effort," with only 54 seconds separating the first and fifth runners, which provided the margin of victory.

In a meet that was anticipated to be very close with any one of five teams capable of winning, the Pleasantville squad pulled out a 79 to 77 victory over Bronxville; with Pawling, Dobbs Ferry, Irvington and Briarcliff not far behind.

As a result of the win, the Panther team will be heading up state on Saturday to compete against the winners from the other 10 Section Champions across the state  In addition to Waxler and McDermott, Pleasantville will send senior captain Zeke Brynin, senior captain Charlie Finn, freshman JC Yahia, sophomore Drew Dorflinger, junior Eamon Coburn and senior alternate Aaron Huang to the meet next weekend. In the year following the passage of Title IX, Pleasantville's very first Girls Cross Country Team formed.  According to Coach Bob Geddes, Pleasantville ran in the historic first Girls Cross Country race in the State of New York, held at Byram Hills High School.

"I played field hockey in the fall but the rest of the 4 needed a 5th to make a team. P'vill came in 1-2. I was the second. Marcia is next to me then Alice Egler who won the whole event (great runner)...The event was the first ever NYS Girls Cross Country Meet held at Byram Hills. Prior to that historic event, the girls had to run with the boys....It was that year-- I went with a bunch of other girls to Albany to fight for Title IX - "not same but equal opportunity". It was coach Geddes that persuaded my parents to buy me my first track shoes - blue suede Pumas!! Miss those days!"  - Leigh Urso Fiorito
